Moving day!

Eirik has done a great turn-around from last night...

Not only did he not need the ventilator last night, but he's breathing much better today!

His respiratory therapist, Tami, jokingly says she put the fear of respiratory therapist in him and they came to an understanding that it was much better off the mask. She has an awesome sense of humor and really helps to make the small steps look much bigger.

AND he's MOVING! The small change in real estate from radiant warmer to isolette is a good thing. He's only 4 days old and he's already changing his address... he'll have no problems when dad changes duty stations.

While we the equipment was being switched around, Kelly got to hold Eirik for the first time. It was really awesome!

I've waited so long for this!

I'm so cute, even though I look like Darth Vadar.

Eirik is also being treated for jaundice, which is common in premature babies because their livers aren't totally developed yet. To help the liver get rid of bilirubin, a waste byproduct which is from the normal breakdown of red blood cells, Eirik is put under special lights. These lights help break down the bilirubin into substances that can be eliminated easier.

Because the light is on all the time and he gets repositioned so all sides of him can "cook" under the light, he has to wear a mask and sunshades.

"And I wear my sunglasses at night so I can see the light that's right before my eyes..."

To quote Ice Cube...

"Today was a good day!"
